Time to set up that Business account on social media?
So what does that even mean?
How do you even start?
There are a few important steps that we need to discuss, to make sure you are truly optimizing your page/account.
This is going to be a THREE-PART series where we discuss the important key components that you need to know when setting up your account and getting things rolling.
So obviously step one is just to get started!
Most of the time this is honestly the hardest step. You know being on social media is important but it is not at the top of the priority list. It continues to get pushed down further and further on the list of things to do. Once you take the time to sit down and get started you need to make sure you set up a page as a business. This type of account is going to give you a lot more resources than just a personal account will.
For example, you will get information on insights, the ability to run ads, shopping links, multiple versions of messaging, direct contact information, and a direct link in your bio to take costumes off of the platform and into your wheelhouse.
These features are what will help you in driving your content, driving your time of posting, driving all that you do with your account as you will get detailed information from your audience.
Now let’s move on to step two -
You have the business account set, now you need to have clearly defined goals. These goals are going to keep you on target with what you want to do with your page, how you want your page to operate, and what outcome you hope to get from the account.
So, there are a variety of goals you may have:
It can be to….
• Create an online presence for your business
• Increase brand awareness
• Get new leads
• Establish your brand as an industry leader
• Sell products directly from the app
When you look at these goals what comes to mind as the goal for your account. Once you decide that and have it clearly stated or written out, then you can move forward full steam ahead.
Don’t panic if those goals evolve and change over time, that is completely normal. Your strategy and goal may evolve as your business evolves and your audience will help lead you as to what they are needing and wanting.
And moving on to step three-
Get to know your audience. If you have a storefront or online website then you already have an idea of what your audience looks like or who it is. If you don’t then take some time to do some research and again pay attention to those analytics as that is your audience speaking to you indirectly.
Research who your target audience is and what they desire. What are the age groups you want to reach and groups of people that are going to need or desire what you are offering? Think through your hashtags and take time to research the most relevant hashtags and the hashtags that target your audience. There are amazing hashtag generators that will guide you in this process or you can work with your platform to discover the best and most relevant hashtags.
And let's end this first series with step four-
You want to ensure that your profile is optimized. This seems to be a step that many skip or do not take very seriously. PLEASE don’t let this be you!
The platforms are set up in a way that you want to ensure that you are taking full advantage of the tools and optimizing in a way that they have laid out so that it is effective and reaches the audience you want to reach.
You want to ensure that your bio is providing value. It is the first impression of your page. When people land on your account your bio gives them a bird’s eye view into who you are and what you do. You have to get everything of value across about your business and what you offer in 150 characters. No big deal right?
You also want a clear name that truly represents you and your business. You can also set up your username/handle that is clear and concise.
Your website needs to be a clickable link so that you grab your target audience and get them off the platform and directly to you and your website.
Create a clear category for your business and direct contact information.
Then end your bio and all your posts with a call to action. This is a great way to get your followers engaging with your content and wanting them to interact. You will be able to tell so much about interaction and engagement on the posts.
