Sharing Your Business on Your Personal Social Media
In sales, it’s important for your prospective customers or clients to feel like they know you. Knowing a business owner helps to build a trusting relationship, making it more likely for the customer to have loyalty towards that business. It’s also important to market your business to your personal circle of friends and family. This circle is full of people who already know and trust you to provide exceptional products and services. Sharing your business on a professional business page as well as your personal social media platforms is a great way to reach both of these audiences, but it is important to have balance.
Why a Business Page?
Having specific profiles or pages for your business on social media is important to give your business a platform. This page focuses completely on your business and allows any potential clients to discover more about your business and what goods and/or services you offer. It also sets clear expectations for clients to know exactly what you can provide to them. A business page provides an ideal place for potential clients to reach you and know that their message will be seen and addressed in a timely manner as well.
Sharing Your Business on Personal Pages
As mentioned before, your friends and family are a perfect place to begin marketing your business. This may require posting some details of your business on your personal social media pages to get the word out. This allows your closest contacts to associate your business with you and guides them to your new business pages or website. You can use your personal page to share your excitement about your new business venture and get other people excited along with you.
The 80/20 Rule
When sharing your business or business page on your personal social media, be careful not to overshare. Generally, about 80% of posts on your personal pages should be personal and unrelated to your business. About 20% of your posts can be business posts such as new products, specials, or just a general reminder of what you offer. Although some posts will be “business” posts, it’s also a good idea to make them a little more personal than the posts on your business pages. Post a photo of your favorite coffee and mention that it helped you through the launch of your new product or give a behind-the-scenes peek at how your product is made. Keep in mind that you will only be sharing your business 20% of the time, so your posts need to be memorable and make an impact.
Remember, sharing with your friends and family is important, but you don’t want them to feel that ALL you share is your business. That can feel too salesy. When you do share, make your posts fun and interesting. Posting more regular non-business posts will help your pages feel a bit less sales-oriented as well.
