Growing Your Instagram In 2023

New Year, New Plan! This is your sign to refresh and grow your Instagram in 2023! Maybe you’ve been on Instagram for a while and need to refresh and get a new start, or perhaps you’ve just begun your Instagram journey and you want to use the new year to really begin to grow. Either way, these tips will help you get a little jumpstart for this new year.

Many people don’t think of Instagram as a search engine, but that is how it’s treated by many of its users. Obviously, this makes Search Engine Optimization (SEO) incredibly important to get your posts seen and gain followers. The algorithm will generally determine automatically how much reach your posts achieve, but there are some steps you can take to make your posts more likely to make it to your target audience. Your captions should be relevant to the content and descriptive while using choice keywords and hashtags for the topic. Adding alt text to your posts can also boost visibility, and finally be sure that the content you post is within your niche. Instagram will know more about who you are trying to reach if you are consistent with posts within the particular niche you have chosen.

Reels are huge right now if you haven’t noticed. Many Instagram users are specifically browsing reels for entertainment, information, and motivation! Reels are definitely something that should be a focus for you in 2023! Remember though: Reels are just a type of post. Stay within your niche and be authentic in the Reels you create – it’s important not to create a Reel solely with the goal of going viral. Users can certainly tell when you are creating content to get attention instead of being your true self and providing value to your target audience.  Try focusing on Reels for the next month and see if it increases your reach!

This tip isn’t about content or strategy specifically, but it is just as important. Find ways to make your posting and planning more streamlined so that you can be more effective on Instagram. Try repurposing content from other platforms like Twitter into Reels or Stories to post on your Instagram profile. You can create a Reel as a shortened video from your Youtube channel or share Stories from a how-to clip you’ve posted to LinkedIn. Spread your content over all your platforms because many users may only follow you on one of your platforms. Planning and scheduling your content in advance will give you more time to get creative with your content and check in on your analytics to see what’s working – and what isn’t!

It's as easy as that! A little three-step refresh for your Instagram to begin 2023 with a bang! If trying all three at once seems daunting, try focusing on one for the next month then adding another each month until you’ve incorporated them all into your Instagram routine and plan. Keep an eye on how your Instagram is progressing and adjust as needed. Happy posting!
