Instagram Posts: Does Timing Matter?

Knowing how often to post to social media can sometimes be tricky. It’s important to make your pages interesting and provide quality content, but does the frequency matter? The short answer is: Yes! You’ll often hear (or read) that consistency is one of the keys of growing on social media – and that is definitely accurate! Posting consistently builds trust with your audience. If they know what to expect from you, they are more likely to engage with your posts and create a relationship with you. Consistency is imperative, but that doesn’t exactly explain how often you should be posting.

An element of posting that is often discussed along with consistency is frequency. But which one is more important? You may assume that they are both of equal importance, but that isn’t always true. Of course, posting often is a great way to provide content to your followers and have your content seen, but quality of content is more important than amount of content. Posting simple and surface-level content daily isn’t as valuable to your followers as quality content 3-4 times per week.

When considering how often to post, remember to experiment with types of posts. Reels are by far the most popular types of posts on Instagram right now, but carousel posts are popular as well. Stories are a great way to build a relationship with followers and meet them on a more relatable level. Being consistent means showing up, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you will always show up in the same way on your profile. Try posting carousel posts several times per week and stories daily, but if you feel you can’t be consistent with that type of schedule, find one that works for you. If your schedule will only allow you to post 3 times per week, become consistent with that schedule until you are able to increase the number of posts over time.

Finally, analytics are your friend when it comes to planning or creating a consistent posting schedule. Review your analytics regularly and tweak your posting in response to them. Don’t make drastic changes but adjust over time so that your audience still knows what to expect from you. Consistency matters.
